Vance Warns of More Federal Layoffs as Shutdown Persists

Vice President J.D. Vance has warned that further cuts to the federal workforce are likely if the government shutdown continues, as reported by AP.

Speaking Sunday, Vance said deeper, “painful” layoffs are imminent unless Congress acts soon.

He asserted the administration is preparing to prune positions to conserve limited funds, particularly as many agencies face severe operational strain.

Over 4,000 firings were already projected in recent budget filings, and Vance suggested those numbers could grow.

He defended the move as a necessity, not a political tool, saying decisions will focus on maintaining essential services while eliminating less critical roles.

As reported, other officials echoed that the scale of cuts will depend on how long the shutdown drags on.

The longer this goes on, the deeper the cuts are going to be,” Vance told Fox News

With no breakthrough in sight on Capitol Hill, the threat of further layoffs adds urgency to negotiations.

If funding remains stalled, more agencies could face cuts and services may begin to falter
