Vance defends Trump, criticizes media over Iran coverage

Vice President JD Vance on Monday pushed back against media reports suggesting tension between him and President Donald Trump over ongoing U.S. military operations in Iran.

Speaking in the Oval Office, Vance accused reporters of trying to “drive a wedge” between administration officials.

He emphasized his full support for the president’s strategy, stating, “What the President said consistently, going back to 2015, and I agreed with him, is that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon.

We have taken this military action under the President’s leadership… all of us should pray for success and pray for the safety of our troops.”

Addressing questions about his past skepticism toward foreign interventions, Vance said the current situation is different, praising Trump’s leadership. “One big difference… is that we have a smart president, whereas in the past, we’ve had dumb presidents, and I trust President Trump to get the job done, to do a good job for the American people,” he said.

Trump, in turn, lauded Vance’s support, calling him “great,” and reiterated his focus on minimizing conflict. “I don’t want wars.

I want wars less than almost anybody, peace through strength,” Trump said, adding that the Middle East operation would be “wrapped up soon” and arguing that short-term economic impacts are minor compared to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities.
