Several United States service members were injured Friday after a missile and drone attack targeted Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to U.S. officials. The strike was attributed to Iran and marked one of the latest escalations in the ongoing conflict involving Washington and Tehran.
Officials told CBS News that about a dozen personnel were wounded, including two who sustained serious injuries, while others suffered less severe harm. The attack involved a combination of missiles and drones, according to reporting cited by U.S. sources.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told G7 foreign ministers that the United States expects the conflict to continue for another two to four weeks.
He said U.S. objectives remain focused on limiting Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons and reducing its regional military influence, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
Iran has launched repeated strikes in recent weeks targeting military sites in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, while also continuing attacks against Israel.
U.S. Central Command has prepared for the possibility of a prolonged conflict, with planning timelines extending up to 100 days.
U.S. officials said operations are ongoing and will continue to be assessed as the situation develops in the region.
