Turkey Cuts All Trade Ties with Israel, Closes Ports to Israeli Ships
Turkey has officially severed all trade relations with Israel and closed its ports to Israeli vessels. Turkish ships are also banned from entering Israeli ports, marking the most severe economic step taken by Ankara in years.
The move follows escalating criticism from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over Israel’s military actions in Gaza. Turkish officials framed the decision as a show of solidarity with Palestinians and a response to what they called Israeli aggression.
The ban ends a long-standing trade relationship between the two countries, which continued despite past political tensions. The restrictions affect multiple sectors, including agriculture, technology, and manufacturing, while also disrupting regional shipping routes through Turkish ports.
Israel faces potential economic disruption from the loss of Turkish trade and transit access. The move could also encourage other regional nations to adopt similar measures.
Diplomatic normalization now appears unlikely without major policy shifts in the ongoing conflict.
