U.S. President Donald Trump has endorsed Rep. Kevin Hern, a Republican from Oklahoma, in the race to succeed Sen. Markwayne Mullin after Mullin was selected to serve as the next Secretary of Homeland Security.

Trump announced the endorsement in a post on Truth Social, calling Hern a “true friend of MAGA” and praising his work as chair of the House Republican Policy Committee. “Kevin Hern will be an outstanding Senator, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump wrote.

Hern officially launched his campaign earlier this week, saying he wanted to ensure Trump “has a loyal ally” in the Senate. In a post on X, Hern thanked the president for his support and said he would continue advancing the “America First” agenda if elected.

The Senate vacancy was created after Trump removed Kristi Noem as DHS secretary and nominated Markwayne Mullin to lead the department. Under Oklahoma law, Gov. Kevin Stitt can appoint a temporary replacement until voters elect a senator in November.

The primary election is scheduled for June 16, with candidate filing for federal offices opening April 1–3.
