The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan said they are ready to support efforts to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and stabilise global energy markets, according to a joint statement.

The countries condemned recent attacks attributed to Iran and called for an immediate halt, warning that continued disruption could threaten key global energy supply routes. The statement followed rising tensions in the region that have unsettled oil and gas markets.

Officials said the group is prepared to take part in what they described as “appropriate efforts” to maintain secure passage through the strategic waterway, a vital corridor for global oil shipments.

“We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait,” the statement said, adding that planning with partner nations is already underway.

The countries also welcomed the release of strategic petroleum reserves and said they would work with energy-producing nations to increase output in an effort to stabilise prices.

Governments said they are closely monitoring developments in the region and coordinating further steps as needed to prevent prolonged disruption to global energy supplies.
