A Sacramento man who told detectives that immigration agents had taken his missing wife has been charged with her murder, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Gurinder Singh Gill, 28, is accused of killing his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30. He has not been convicted, and no plea has been reported.
Jasmine Gill, a nurse and the mother of the couple’s 8-month-old child, was last seen at their Sacramento home on Sept. 30. Her cousin reported her missing on Oct. 4.
An ICE claim that did not hold up
When detectives questioned Gill, he said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had taken her into custody while she was checking the mail at their home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had taken place at the home, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported.
“As the investigation progressed, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance,” Sgt. Edward Igoe, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, told Fox News.
Remains found in El Dorado County
Human remains found Oct. 1 in neighboring El Dorado County were later confirmed to be Jasmine Gill’s. Authorities have not released a cause of death or said where she was killed.
The couple were going through a divorce and a child custody dispute when she disappeared, the sheriff’s office said. It has not given a motive.
Detectives obtained a murder arrest warrant and arrested Gill on Oct. 14. They also searched two homes linked to him.
Gill was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is being held without bail as the case moves toward arraignment.
