A Russian missile strike hit a residential apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv early Saturday, killing at least seven people and injuring several others, according to Ukrainian officials.

Authorities said the missile struck a five-story apartment block in Ukraine’s second-largest city, causing major destruction and trapping residents under rubble as emergency crews rushed to the scene. Among the victims were two children, regional officials said.

The attack was part of a large overnight barrage in which Russia launched dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones across Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and other sites in multiple regions.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted many of the incoming weapons, but several strikes still caused damage in cities including Kharkiv.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike and called for continued international support to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense systems as rescue operations continued at the damaged building.
