Rosen urges Noem to reopen Global Entry, keep TSA PreCheck active during DHS shutdown

Sen. Jacky Rosen of Nevada is calling on Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to immediately restore the Global Entry program and maintain access to TSA PreCheck as the Department of Homeland Security shutdown stretches into its third week.

In a Feb. 26 letter, Rosen argued that suspending Global Entry and threatening to pause PreCheck harms lawful travelers and could damage the broader economy, particularly in tourism-dependent cities such as Las Vegas.

She said the programs improve security while helping low-risk travelers move more efficiently through airports and customs.

The department recently cited staffing shortages tied to lapsed funding as the reason for suspending Global Entry and initially pausing PreCheck services.

PreCheck was later reinstated following public backlash, though Noem said this week the program could be reviewed again to prioritize standard screening lanes.

Rosen questioned the decision-making process behind the suspensions and asked for a detailed explanation of the legal and operational basis for the move.

She also requested a timeline for fully restoring Global Entry services, warning that prolonged disruptions to air travel could ripple across the economy, affecting jobs and local businesses tied to tourism.
