About 140 U.S. service members have been wounded since the start of the war with Iran, the Pentagon said, as American forces continue facing missile and drone attacks across the Middle East.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the majority of the injuries are considered minor and 108 troops have already returned to duty.

Officials added that eight service members remain severely injured and are receiving advanced medical treatment.

The casualties have occurred during the first days of Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-led military campaign targeting Iranian military capabilities.

U.S. officials say American bases and facilities across the region have been targeted by Iranian missile and drone strikes since the conflict began.

The Pentagon has also confirmed that seven U.S. service members have been killed in the conflict so far, while attacks and counterstrikes continue across the Middle East.
