Iran has appointed a new national security chief following the killing of senior official Ali Larijani in an airstrike, according to state media and official statements.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, a former Revolutionary Guard commander, has been named secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, replacing Larijani who was killed last week amid ongoing conflict.
Larijani, a key figure in Iran’s political and security leadership, died in a targeted strike in Tehran, marking one of the most significant losses for the country’s leadership during the current escalation.
Officials said the appointment was made quickly to ensure continuity in national security decision-making as tensions remain high.
The Supreme National Security Council plays a central role in shaping Iran’s defense and foreign policy strategy.
Zolghadr is considered a senior figure with close ties to Iran’s military establishment, and his appointment signals a continued emphasis on security coordination during the conflict.
Authorities said the situation remains volatile, with leadership changes and ongoing military developments being closely monitored both inside Iran and internationally.
