The FBI said investigators discovered explosive residue inside a storage unit in Pennsylvania believed to be connected to the attempted bombing near the residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to officials involved in the investigation.
Authorities said the discovery was made during a search related to the case involving two suspects accused of attempting to detonate improvised explosive devices outside Gracie Mansion during a protest.
The devices thrown near the mayor’s home failed to detonate and no injuries were reported.
Investigators believe the storage unit may have been used to store or prepare materials linked to the homemade explosives used in the attempted attack.
Federal agents are examining the evidence as part of a broader counter-terrorism investigation.
Two suspects previously charged in the case remain in federal custody while authorities continue reviewing digital evidence, surveillance footage and other materials to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged plot.
