China has publicly warned the United States against any use or threat of military force against Iran, urging Washington to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions in the Middle East and instead pursue peaceful solutions under international law.
At a United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in Iran, China’s charg d’affaires to the UN said that “any military adventurism” risks pushing the region into an “unpredictable abyss” and stressed that the U.S. should adhere to the principles of the U.N. Charter and abandon what Beijing described as a fixation on the use of force.
China called on all parties to exercise restraint and work to uphold international peace and security amid rising tensions tied to possible U.S. military options against Iran.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated that Beijing opposes interference in other countries’ internal affairs and the use or threat of force in international relations, and said China hopes all parties will support actions conducive to peace and stability in the Middle East.
The warnings come amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran, including military incidents in the region and diplomatic exchanges over Tehran’s domestic unrest and nuclear program.
Iranian leaders have also warned that any U.S. attack would trigger wider conflict, further complicating efforts to de-escalate the situation.
China’s statements reflect its broader stance that disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than force, and underline Beijing’s call for all parties to respect sovereignty and work toward diplomatic outcomes.
