Three additional cargo ships were reportedly attacked in the Persian Gulf, heightening fears for commercial shipping as oil prices climb back toward $100 per barrel amid escalating tensions in the Middle East as reported by CNN news

Maritime security officials said the vessels were struck by what were described as unknown projectiles, causing damage to the ships while they were traveling through waters near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.

The incidents come days after other vessels were damaged in similar attacks in the region, raising concerns about the safety of tankers and cargo ships moving through the Gulf.

The Strait of Hormuz normally carries about one-fifth of global oil shipments.

Energy markets reacted quickly to the new reports, with crude prices rising again toward the $100 mark as traders warned that continued attacks on shipping could disrupt global energy supplies and intensify volatility in oil markets.
