Israel said it has killed a senior Iranian naval commander responsible for operations in the Strait of Hormuz, in what officials described as a targeted airstrike amid escalating regional conflict.
Israeli officials identified the figure as Alireza Tangsiri, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard naval forces, and said he had played a key role in efforts to restrict shipping through the strategic waterway.
The strike was described as part of broader efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route that has been heavily disrupted during the conflict.
Iran has not confirmed the killing, and details surrounding the strike remain unclear. The reported death follows a series of high-level losses within Iran’s military leadership in recent weeks.
The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of the world’s oil shipments, and disruptions there have contributed to rising global energy prices and market instability.
Officials said the situation remains highly volatile, with further military and diplomatic developments expected as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
