U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran have held direct talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as he ordered a temporary halt to planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.
Trump said the discussions over the past two days were “very good and productive,” raising the possibility of a broader agreement to end hostilities, according to his public statements.
He said he had instructed the military to postpone any strikes on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days, adding that further decisions would depend on the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
The delay follows earlier warnings from Washington that it could target Iran’s energy infrastructure if tensions escalated, while Tehran had threatened retaliation against regional and U.S.-linked facilities.
Officials said the pause signals a potential shift toward diplomacy after weeks of conflict, though the situation remains highly volatile and dependent on progress in talks.
The discussions are expected to continue throughout the week, with both sides under pressure to reach a resolution and avoid further escalation in the region.
