A cargo ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after three commercial vessels were struck by what authorities described as “unknown projectiles,” as per CNN reports raising fresh concerns about the safety of shipping through the key global energy route.

Maritime security officials said the incident occurred as vessels were transiting the narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, a corridor used for a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

Reports said one ship caught fire following the impact, while the other vessels sustained damage. Crew members were reported safe, and nearby ships and maritime authorities responded to assist as investigations began.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions and military activity across the Middle East, with shipping companies and naval forces increasing security in the region due to fears that attacks on commercial vessels could disrupt global energy supplies.
