Trump says he won’t sign bills until SAVE Act passes

U.S. President Donald Trump said he will refuse to sign any legislation into law until Congress passes the SAVE Act, a proposal aimed at tightening voter registration requirements in federal elections.

Speaking about the measure, Trump said the bill is necessary to ensure election integrity and prevent non-citizens from registering to vote.

The proposal would require individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering for federal elections.

Supporters of the measure argue it would strengthen safeguards in the voting system, while critics say existing laws already prohibit non-citizens from voting and warn the requirements could make registration more difficult for some eligible voters.

The legislation must pass both the House and Senate before it could reach the president’s desk. Trump said he intends to push Congress to prioritize the bill before other legislative matters move forward.
