Chinese President Xi Jinping Congratulates North Korea’s Kim Jong Un on His Reelection

Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following Kim’s reelection as general secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, state news agencies reported Monday.

Xi hailed Kim’s reelection as reflecting “the high trust and heartfelt support” of North Korea’s party, government and people, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation and bilateral relations with Pyongyang.

In his message, Xi described China and North Korea as “friendly socialist neighbors” and reiterated China’s “unwavering policy” to develop and solidify ties with North Korea.

Kim’s reelection occurred during the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea in Pyongyang, where he was confirmed to continue leading the party and the country’s top political body.

The congratulatory message underscores the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Beijing and Pyongyang, rooted in historical alliances and ongoing strategic engagement.
