President Donald Trump on Friday defended Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as she faces escalating calls to resign or be impeached, saying she has been unfairly targeted by critics and praising her performance in office.
“The Radical Left Lunatics, Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Thugs, are going after Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, because she is a woman, and has done a really GREAT JOB!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Border disaster that I inherited is fixed, the violent criminals that were allowed into our Country through Sleepy Joe’s ‘sick’ Open Border Policy, are largely gone, or being strongly sought for purposes of removal.”
Noem has come under multipartisan criticism over her handling of recent fatal shootings in Minneapolis involving federal immigration officers, as well as her oversight of disaster response funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security.
After 37-year-old Alex Pretti was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent during a protest in Minneapolis last weekend, Noem described him as a “domestic terrorist” and said he was “brandishing” a gun, claims that critics say are not supported by video footage from the scene. She made similar remarks earlier this month after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis.
Several lawmakers from both parties have called for Noem to step down, and more than 160 House Democrats have backed articles of impeachment against her.
Trump rejected those demands in his social media post, urging Republicans to stand by the secretary.
“Republicans, don’t let these Crooked Democrats, who are stealing Billions of Dollars from Minnesota, and other Cities and States from all over the Country, push you around,” <a href="http://<iframe src="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/115987481835523508/embed" class="truthsocial-embed" style="max-width: 100%; border: 0" width="600" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe><script src="https://truthsocial.com/embed.js" async="async">Trump wrote. “They are using this aggressive protest scam to obfuscate, camouflage, and hide their criminal actsof theft and insurrection. They should all be in jail.”
